Objective

Reverse offshoring, reshoring, onshoring, whatever you wish to call it, it's all about producing more goods and services where they are consumed… in our case, within Canada, but if our arguments are valid, they should apply everywhere.

In purchasing locally produced goods and services, consumers influence, via their pocketbooks, the tradeoffs made w.r.t. purchase price, local employment and environmental issues which arise in the production, operation and disposal of goods and services.

To that end, we have set out to aid in reversing the trend of having most products manufactured overseas and many services delivered from locations without environmental or labour protection or anti-spamming laws, for example.

This trend of moving production and services outside the jurisdiction of the consumer is called Offshoring. We want to slow this trend and possibly reverse it in select areas that make good business and social sense. Naturally we call that Onshoring. Others have called it reverse offshoring or reshoring, to name a few.

In this site, we will argue those cases that make sense to Onshore. We will provide anecdotal evidence that it is already happening.

To prove our theories, we will operate an Onshoring small business that uses Low Volume Manufacturing techniques through computer controlled machinery. Currently, we have in-house capabilities for subtractive 3D printing over a print volume of 8ft x 4 ft x 1 ft and plastic moulding up to 4 ft by 2 ft by 2 ft in size.

Onshoring will not make sense for everything, but where it does, our objective is to get that message to decision makers in the production, distribution, sales and consumers ends.

If we succeed, we expect better consumer choices, a better environment and more local employment.

Is it a political problem, an economic problem, a business problem, a religious problem or a science problem? The answer is yes. It's all of those.

We don't have all the answers, but we know that "No one of us is smarter than all of us" Any help or advice you wish to offer will be gratefully accepted. Click here to contact us.

Contrary to what multinational corporations and foreign governments would have us believe, we hold this truth to be self-evident: Products and services should be made/performed where they are consumed.

New technologies and business models are making that possible. It is our mission to spread the word to suppliers and consumers and the governments under which they live and work.
